Bali’s unique cultural heritage has made the island one of the world’s most attractive destinations for lover of art and dance. The combination of music, dance and dramatic arts becomes a feast for the senses during festivals and religious celebrations, yet the tradition is also honoured in the daily rituals carried out in every household as they have been for hundreds of years.
Some of the colourful festivals and traditional celebrations are held each month at full moon, while other are marked using the traditional Balinese calendar or pawukon which cycles every 210 days. Besides governing the daily rituals and the more elaborate rites of passage, the pawukon system also marks major temple anniversaries. Traditional processions, or mapeed, are also a feature to took out for during your holiday.
